What is Dev First Quest?
Welcome to the BanklessDAO Developers Guild!
Β
If you've landed on this page, you're off to a great start. Dev First Quest is our official onboarding process for the Developers guild. It's designed to be our way of easing people new to the DAO into the guild by giving them a series of pointers detailing how to get involved and how to find worthwhile projects to get started.
Β
You can begin first quest by jumping to the First Quest Playbook section below, adding your name to the current cohort, introducing yourself in the discord, and working through the items in the playbook.
Β
Cohorts last approximately 6 weeks, but if you don't complete all the tasks in one, you can simply rollover to the next. At the end of the cohort, there is a roundup call to close off the onboarding process, at which point we invite graduates to put themselves forward to help run the first quest program and keep improving it.
Why should I do the First Quest?
First, the first quest items will give you a great overall exposure to the developers guild: who we are, what we are working on, who are the key players, where are the issues, etc.
tw
Secondly, it will guide you towards making your first meaningful contributions in the areas that are most needed. BanklessDAO is a self-described "Do-ocracy" - we value people who are willing to get involved and get started, so First Quest is designed to help you work out how best to do that.
Β
Thirdly, you can get PAID!
  • There are scribe bounties available for taking meeting notes
  • There are knowledge bounties available for sharing information
  • There are development bounties available for working on issues
  • If you are looking for your first Bankless salary, graduates of first quest are eligible to apply to join the moderation team, and earn 5000 BANK per week to help run the Dev First Quest for new joiners!
Isn't there already a BanklessDAO First Quest?
Yes, but we felt as a guild that onboarding developers and technical administrators had enough unique challenges that we needed to have our own onboarding process tailored exclusively for the guild. Both are complementary, but separate.
How do I get started with First Quest?
Introduce yourself in the #dev-first-quest discord channel and add your name to the sheet below (The First Quest Playbook).
Start working through the items in the sheet over the course of the cohort.
Do I need to complete First Quest to be involved in Dev Guild?
No, but it's recommended.
Dev First Quest is entirely optional, it's designed to help ease you into the guild with a bit of structure, but if you find a project or a role that suits you, either before the First Quest finishes, or before starting, you are more than welcome to skip the First Quest entirely.
The First Quest Playbook
The full list of first quest tasks can be found in the sheet below. If you're interested in getting involved, add your name to the list on the left hand side, and start racking up the tasks. Any questions feel free to reach out to the admins at the top of the sheet.
Β
Once you've completed first quest, you're eligible to become a moderator for the next cohort. Admins are rotated on a 1/2 season basis (approximately 6 weeks), are expected to put in around 5hrs of time, and are paid with 5000 BANK each week!
Becoming a Dev First Quest Admin
We want Dev First Quest to be a self-sustaining, community run, living process.
This kind of initiative works best when it is continually being refined by new members, with fresh eyes to the guild, and who are maximially exposed to the criticisms of new onboarding.
In short, we need fresh graduates of first quest to become admins.
What Does an Admin Do?
An admin has three main responsibilities:
  1. Be the friendly face of the Dev Guild in the #dev-first-quest channel, welcoming people, and pointing them to the right place when getting started
  1. Making themselves available for introductory calls for orienting new members.
  1. Working on improvements to the onboarding process for new members.
How do I put myself forward?
Add yourself to the admin list, for the current cohort. We will have a vote to select up to 3 admins 2x per season, at a rate of 5000 BANK per week.
Please include your discord handle, and a short proposal on what you will be implementing to improve first quest and the onboarding process.
Members who put themselves forward will be voted on by other DAO members.
