Session 1&2

14.09.2022 & 21.09.2022
Agenda
  • Welcome
  • Hello to new members, introduce yourself
  • Logistics
  • Topic of today
  • Open questions
  • Closing
Logistics/Where to find
  • Logistics:
    • Do we want to have a separate german session?
      • Yes
        No
Depending on how many people are interested, I will set up a separate session or a Q&A in German every two weeks 😀
    • Additional Topics
      • In the introduction of the stury group I mentioned that when if we have time and there is enough interest I would like to do sessions on additional topics. These topics are the metaverse, metaverse economy, NFTs and maybe more. Should I prepare these sessions?
        Yes
        No
    • Working through the material
      • Each week ahead of the scheduled study group session please go through the material by yourself and make notes, think about the answer etc.
Based on the reasoning offered during our discussions and your own investigation before our session we will decide the correct answer. Some questions may be open for debate, this is welcome!
And if there are unclear things we can address them to the lecturers/pros of the topics.
  • Where to find:
    • notes: will be linked to the study group page
    • The results are always saved in the corresponding notes file
    •
Topic of Today
Module 1 - Chapter 1: as far as we can go today but normally 1 session, 1 chapter
Proposed Solution
QuestionAnswer1Answer2Answer3Answer4Answer5sugested Answer
Chapter 1: What is - according to Trent McConaghy - arguably the core feature of tokenized ecosystems?Removing the middlemen and enforcing rules with codeProviding a payment system beyond nation state regulationGetting people to do stuff
Chapter 1: The design of a tokenized ecosystem starts with defining the goal. Why can this be challenging?Goals need constraints. Defining constraints is hard.Communicating intent is hard.Bridging the gap between my intent and what the machine thinksI want is hard.
Chapter 1: What make’s the designers responsibility in decentralized systems special? If something wents wrong, there’s an entity entitled to push the emergency button in a centralized system. In a decentralized system, it won’t work this way.Responsibility is shared amongst many players, and a matter of continuous alignment. The design of the system itself is decentralized.
Chapter 1: What, according to Trent McConaghy are most needed tools for the token engineering sector?Tools to verify that a design can work (according to its performance metrics) despite uncontrollable variables that impact performance.Tools to give insight into what happens to worstcase/ n-sigma performance when controllable variables get changed.Simulators to measure performance metrics of a given design
Chapter 1: What’s the objective function of Bitcoin?Maximize decentralization.Maximize the security of its network.Maximize miner rewards.Maximize usage of digital money.Maximize speed in digital payments.2
Chapter 1: Please rate the following statement: The value Keepers provide in the Ocean network is keeping the token price stableTrueFalse
Chapter 1: What's Ocean Protocol’s objective function?Maximize the supply of cheap AI data & services.Maximize the supply of relevant AI data & services.Maximize the demand of AI data & services.
Chapter 1: How did the Ocean team call their new curation design pattern to maximize Ocean’s objective function?Curated Proofs MarketsCurated Data MarketsPredicted PopularityCurated Proofs Identification
Chapter 1: What’s the correct equation for Ocean’s token rewards function?
Open Questions
Questions
Statements&Discusions
How could we design an Objective function for an AMM
He focuses a lot on L1 chains not DAOs
There will be progressive decentralizated, there will be cases with automation and some cases where not everything is autimated (take this into account)?
We should go more in depth into the ocean protocal case to understand the design process better
Ocean Protocol: Is it still incentivsing behavior as they constructed it?
What are the different frameworks and the incentivising methods (more insights needed)
Would be great to get him in a meeting with us 😁
  • What are the models that have been created that will have a chance to survive?
On the disciplines of TE:
  • Is it useful to put so much ressources into such an idea
  • BlockSience is offering such a TE service (maybe a better more cheaper option, then hiring a team)
  • We should make it more practical, and bring it to our clients
  • Models are limited (There is gap between theory and practice)

Closing
  • When is the next session?
    • Sessions are every week on Wednessday at 3:00PM UTC / 5:00PM Vienna Time
Additional Sessions: n/a —> what does the group want
      For Session 2:
      Prepare Section 1 (3 Articles)

Comments & Feedback
  • More structure on the Module
  • 10 Min. related to the structure (what we have read this week etc.)
  • First learnings about the articles (especially with more in depth questions)
  • Figure out a balance (we don’t have to go through each question)
  • Adding things maybe before the session (like 1 day before)
  • Copy the articles into the notion file (comment and then go through the top comments)
