Hello, everyone. I'm sharing some thoughts to stimulate a discussion about a potential "Protect What Matters" campaign. As you all know, I am extremely bullish on Gitcoin. I suggest we land on the "What Matters" theme because it holds such high potential as a meme.
Why is the "What Matters" meme high-potential? Because we're living in a time when many people don't even know what truly matters. We have built a civilization on false idols, like worshiping the God of money at the expense of human and ecological well-being. We cannot take it for granted that people around the world understand what matters.
Many people think that climbing the corporate ladder or sacrificing their most important relationships is what matters. Some believe that being cut-throat and backstabbing others is what counts. Furthermore, many undervalue the roles of parents and caretakers.
Even if people have a sense of what doesn't matter as much as mainstream culture suggests, there needs to be more emphasis on what definitely matters: people, technology, and culture that support and accelerate human and ecological flourishing. In my mind, human flourishing is inseparable from ecological flourishing because our natural ecosystem is the substrate upon which any humans can truly flourish.
In recent years, web3 has been a reflection of humanity's consciousness and priorities. A small subset of web3, called regen web3, focuses on community, human flourishing, and ecological well-being.
However, the vast majority of crypto/web3 consists of scams, Ponzis, and greater fool's games. It's almost like an internet casino or a major bank heist, a transfer of wealth from regular people trying to make it, especially in light of a failing traditional banking system, to those who exploit them.
There's so much wrong happening in crypto/web3 that we can't take for granted that people in web3 and crypto understand what matters. Providing moral clarity is incredibly powerful. Gitcoin is like a well-respected church in web3 and beyond. It has a brand of moral clarity that few organizations possess. This is spiritual and moral capital that is essential for an ecosystem to be taken seriously.
Now, let's talk more about the "Protect What Matters" campaign. Once people understand what matters, which includes ensuring your ecosystem users aren't scammed and lose faith in a potentially revolutionary space, sector, or movement, they can begin to realize that it's worth it to protect what matters.
If you believe that it's worth it to protect what matters, you might be willing to invest a bit of time and add a few lines of code to protect what matters with Gitcoin Passport. It only takes a few lines of code to integrate. With this campaign, we aim to illustrate that reputable organizations like Bankless Academy, Snapshot, and Celestia are already protecting what matters with Gitcoin Passport. So, what are you waiting for?
We are continually adding new stamps that allow your users to shine and show off their reputation in a way that truly reflects where they've invested their energy. The Gitcoin Passport ecosystem benefits both passport holders and reputation vetters (dApps / community leaders). It's a flywheel because more stamps get added, which excites more integrators, allowing passport holders to access more experiences.
The more experiences there are to access, the more holders we get, and the more people want to contribute more stamps to access this holder population. With more stamps available on the Gitcoin Passport, more people are inspired to protect what matters with Gitcoin Passport. It's this flywheel of trust-building and protection in web3 that I find so beautiful.
Throughout the Gitcoin Passport "Protect What Matters" campaign, we will increasingly release case studies that show we can help you protect whatever matters to you. We will also release better documentation and onboarding videos that reduce the friction for both the Gitcoin Passport team and integrators. Additionally, we will provide materials that get people excited to build out their Gitcoin Passport supported reputation.
We're also going to highlight the new stamps that get added, which is very exciting.
I envisage this Protect What Matters campaign unfolding over the course of two months, and by the end of it, everyone in web3 will understand that they should protect what matters and consider doing so through Gitcoin Passport.
And we will emphasize that if a potential vetter/integrator’s needs are more specific, they can file a feature request with us. We're likely to take it seriously if it’s applicable to multiple organizations.
CONCLUSION: A “Protect What Matters” Campaign would be a HUGE win for Gitcoin
In conclusion, the "Protect What Matters" campaign is not just a marketing strategy but a call to action for everyone involved in the web3 community. It emphasizes the value of integrity, protection, and prioritization of the elements that truly matter for human and ecological flourishing.
For the Gitcoin Passport team, this campaign is an opportunity to emphasize our commitment to fostering a safer and more trustworthy web3 environment. It will enable us to leverage our moral clarity, our reputational strength, and our technological capabilities to inspire and mobilize our community.
Let's remember that our mission isn't just about technology or currency. It's about people. It's about what truly matters to them, and it's about how we can leverage our unique strengths to protect those values. So, let's buckle up, put our best foot forward, and strive to make this campaign a resounding success. We're not just building products; we're building trust, security, and a better future for our community. Let's protect what matters together!
