You’re part of Design and Academy - can you describe your roles with these teams a bit?
  • Design guild - talent coordinator and secretary
    • Secretary takes a lot of notes and does a lot of payment rounds, and keeps track of payments and documentation (notion)
    • Talent coord - more along the lines of who is in the guild, who does what, keeping a list of contributors, trying to match contributors with jobs for talents
  • Academy - illustration lead or design lead. More of a designer coordinator + general coordination
    • Just make sure things are ready for meets, try to org new work to be able to break down, talk about it, ensure communication btw teams is happening, making sure meeting goals on time, oversee elements of design
    • Talent coord in design led him to Academy - they were looking for a lot of design effort and he is ideal for this
    • Gitcoin grants? When the funding round comes around, they have to submit a document their project and why they need funding (GR11 was 3 months ago, and now GR12 is coming up in December)
      • Basically any donor on Gitcoin can select your project and see your summary

I’ve seen the intake process for design on the #job-postings board - can you describe this process for me?
  • People tend to come in to #job-postings board and ask for x,y,z
    • Someone will answer OR they will try to match them
  • The whole process is a work in progress - they have some complexities
    • Often people will come to get a “quick design” - they just want something done quickly (first-come, first-served for designers on this)
    • Some projects require a bit more in-depth work (especially for illustration). These projects need more creative leeway
      • The artist takes something from the client and turns into something visual.
      • The client may have a vision that doesn’t match up with the capabilities of the designer
    • FEATURE REQUEST: They would like to have, with Bounty Board, a pitch phase
      • i.e. 24-hours, someone pitches the bounty and then the bounty creator choose artists based on pitch

Any pains with this process?
  • The process can be a bit disjointed. Sometimes people post in #design-general and they have to move them over to #job-postings
  • There are a lot of things to work out
    • One thing they want to offer - services to external client, internal clients, other DAOs, etc. When they take on an external client, they are supposed to give a %-age to the DAO (10%). And a part is supposed to go to the Guild (for coordination, overhead, etc)
      • DAO can also provide billing to external clients
    • Currently when someone comes in with a job - they are finding people who can do the job and passing them over…instead of managing them in-house
      • This means that the designer is going to another DAO, client, etc on their own
      • So this means that the designer is on their own, and it’s not really creating this ecosystem of design work
      • So the question is: how do we connect a designer and client to do their own thing vs when do handle this more hands-on as a guild
    • Example: Raidguild (they can see people’s designers, portfolios, etc) apparently does it well
      • They want to foster a welcoming and productive guild - where things get done
    • For one project they had 50/50 split - the designer should get more (70% has some consensus)
      • They don’t want to take money out of the designer's pocket unless they are doing something helpful
  • The specifications of a job - clients often underestimate the information they need to provide
    • Mood: formal or crypto punk?
    • Assets you want in?
    • IDEA: could there be a template for some basic info? i.e. format, size, ratio, etc
    • of iterations would be useful - bigger job could have 3 iterations, and smaller ones, just 1
      • What are prices for further iterations?
  • FEATURE REQUEST: link to terms of service
    • They don’t want a client unwilling to pay just because they don’t like it. The designer has put time into the work, so they need some piece of mind for this.
  • Previous observations from links' interviews:
    • From design perspective
      • Missing incoming info (mood/references, medium, dimensions, etc)
      • Change requests and feedback -> what are expectations and what is included in pricing?
    • From client perspective
      • Pricing guidance, especially around revisions
      • Wants to understand design aesthetic of people before they “hire” them
    • From both
      • Public paper trail of jobs to learn from

How would you feel if the bounty board posted any design jobs to #job-postings?
  • There would be a tag for design work and we could give guidance to people on what to enter (similar to what you have on your Notion page)
  • That (auto-post to #job-postings) would be amazing! He believes that this is already requested
    • The guidance in text form would be great
  • Role gating would be key - FEATURE REQUEST: role gating
  • FEATURE REQUEST: Multiple claimants on a bounty
    • BED index (index coop bed gleam…something) - effort to get 20 different designs from different artists and take part
    • Anyone who gets it gets 1K BANK
    •
What are your impressions of bounty board?
  • Doesn’t have much experience with it - he looked into it when it was first launched
  • TBH he would have to go back through and take a good hard look at it, but from previous interaction, he was pretty amazed that it existed
  • Main limitations - how do you un-claim bounties? How do you keep people from claiming? Can you do pitch period, etc?
  • Another things that stands out - he thought the money had to be put in to make a bounty
    • But this isn’t true yet, is it?
    • FEATURE REQUEST - this! A kind of escrow to make the process more smooth
      • Sometimes job comes up but they don’t have the funds yet - doesn’t want this to hold up a design process
      •
What could we do to get you to use it? Either for incoming work or finding someone?
  • Not particularly - he just needs tot be more conscientious for using it as a tool

Design intake process - how would you feel to have a small, unrestricted bounty for design intake (i.e. a design test?)
  • They have thought about the design test - designers come in all shapes and sizes, so he’s worried about giving them a specific take to do
    • what about the intake form? for a small bounty (like 10-25 BANK)?
    • He’s currently redesigning the intake form, so he’d love to see how this gets fleshed out
  • ACTION: links to followup with NFThinker as this starts to solidfy
