How to create a Discord Channel thread
Discord Thread is a branched conversation within a channel. Threads allow multiple topics in a channel to exist and have their own dedicated space without having to commit to a new channel for the server.

Threads also don't count towards the server channel limit.
Creating a thread
Anyone can "Create Public Threads" in BDAO discord.
- There are 3 ways you can create threads in a channel.
- Hover over any existing message you would like to create a thread from and press on the
#
icon to create a thread. - You can also create a new thread by pressing the
+
button in your chat bar. - Or, you can click on
#
button at the top of the channel and clickCreate
.

Â
- Fill in the details about the thread. If you are creating a new thread without an existing message, you need to send a starter message to create where you can tag members to send them a notification.

Â
- You can choose the duration of your thread with the Archive After Inactivity drop-down menu. (P.S. It is super easy to unarchive a thread). We recommend 1 week.

Â
- Click
Create Thread
and that's it. New thread message will show up on the main channel from where people can view and join the thread.
Join a thread
- To join an active thread, press on the thread in the thread discovery icon on the channel nav, or press
See thread
on a thread you see in chat. An active thread is signified with a # plus a speech bubble icon

Â
- Once you opened the thread, clickÂ
Join
or you can send a message in the thread to join in automatically. (You'll start receiving thread notification once you join the thread)

Thread Visibility Best Practices
- Unless you know how to view threads, as shown in the prior two steps, threads will often go unnoticed. For persistent threads, we recommend including a thread index in your category’s
start-here
channel like below:

Â
- If a thread archives due to inactivity, it may show
deleted-channel
on thestart-here
page which will no longer link to the thread.

To avoid this, in addition to thread names in the thread index, you can add a link to a message in the thread as shown below. With this, if a thread archives and show deleted-channel there is still a quick way to jump to the thread from
start-here
channel. .png%3Ftable%3Dblock%26id%3D06028120-49c4-4227-81eb-9859350eac7d%26cache%3Dv2&w=3840&q=75)
Â
Archive & unarchive a thread
- Archive:
The threads will auto-archive after time of inactivity set while creating the thread.
L2 privilege - If you would like to manually archive the thread, you may press on the
3 dots(...)
at the top right side of the threads window and press "Archive Thread".
Â
- Unarchive:
After a thread has been archived, you will see a banner at the top of the thread. L2 can unarchive the thread via a button, or someone can type in the thread to unarchive it.
