Agenda
- Intros
- Davide — 4844 fee markets, MEV
- Aysajan — interested in rollup econ/OR, project with EF and also his own Uni on blockchain mechanisms
- Mark — sidecar service for full node to to collect rollup data and produce insights from it ‣
- Barnabe — PBS
- Nikete — researching markets for blockspace across rollups
- Kofi — expanding rollup dashboard with more metrics and also who has best compression, etc
- Dan — builder, relay at blocknative and MEV
- echno — Ethereum Protocol Fellow, working on reducing trust assumptions around PBS
- Akaki — Offchain Labs researcher, thinking about fair ordering and optimistic rollup delay attacks, to reduce the withdrawal period
- Round of project sharing
- Akaki
- Qlearning batch posting policy running in prod
- Follow up to batch poster when they’ll decentralize sequencer. How do you incentivize batch posters? Pay a small fraction of posting fee but also for long queues with penalty.
- Can you ask sequencer the posting price? Protocol does not see immediately, and then there is the problem of reorgs (in theory, but little in practice)
- Aysajan
- How do you evaluate performance of batch poster?
- Davide
- Is there an operational change after 4844? in terms of batch posting policy or other?
- Akaki
- Batch posting needs to be reviewed, since you have a new basefee for data gas
- Assumption is that one rollup is small, so the footprint of batch publication is small, but maybe that’s not true on the data-gas market, now there is a greater impact, so how to quantify/model it?
- Davide
- For 1559, everyone is a price taker! Here in the data-gas market, you can have bigger impacts
- Akaki
- Do people think about censorship? Why is there a 7-day withdrawal period
- Barnabe
- Dan
- What about the proposal of having multiple proposers?
- Barnabé: Timing games () to mitigate the temporary monopoly power of the proposer (current work in RIG)ROP-0: Timing games in Proof-of-Stake
- Davide to Mark: how to think about the untitled rollup project?
- Mark: Useful for researchers to record the data and drive their own analyses.
- Mark: Looking for adding more data processing in the tool, possibly an UI to configure what data should be scraped, plug-n-play
- Mark: With Bedrock, you can look at the expense of L1 gas for L2, and the rebates to users based on the gas used
- Barnabe: for the ppl in blockbuilding, are you thinking at all about decentralized sequencers and the implications of people trying to extract x-domain MEV?
- Dan: not de-sequencers, but looked into how to value blockspace futures
- Nikete: what’s the market structure when you sell blockspace across domains jointly? especially in cosmos. Imagine a data availability layers that is common to all the domains, the different auctions may close on the block itself
- Are there reorgs on-chain?
- Ideas for next steps & collaborations
- cross-rollup blockspace markets & MEV
- datagas vs normal gas fee markets post-4844
- L2 data use cases (monitoring, costs, rebates)
