2023 Year-in-Review
The past year was yet another rollercoaster ride. With all the lows came equally high highs, and the Gitcoin community could not be more proud of what we accomplished together.

    Gitcoin Grants
Launched in 2019, Gitcoin Grants is one of the largest grants programs in the Web3 and the single largest Quadratic Funding experiment in the world. Our primary aim with the program is to tap into the power of community intelligence to identify and fund impactful projects in the web3 while showcasing the powerful technology developed at Gitcoin over the past year.
Through our ongoing and steadfast commitment to our purpose, we have helped the inception of some of the Web3’s biggest names (like Uniswap, 1inch and Optimism), helped top-tier organizations grow their ecosystems (like Polygon, a16z, and XYZ), and have partnered with world-changing organizations like UNICEF, the American Cancer Society and Coinbase.

    YEAR BY YEAR
    Growing Our Impact
Year after year Gitcoin Grants continues its remarkable growth, leaving an indelible mark on the Web3 landscape. Empowering grassroots initiatives and high-impact projects, Gitcoin Grants has become a catalyst for innovation, nurturing a vibrant ecosystem of developers, entrepreneurs, and visionaries.
By fostering collaborations and funding cutting-edge technologies, Gitcoin Grants has played a pivotal role in the rise of significant Web3 entities, fostering a sense of community and driving forward the future of decentralized technologies.
In 2023, the amount of funding distributed was X% higher than when we started in 2019.

    Grants Stack
Grants Stack empowers communities to fairly and transparently fund the initiatives that matter to them. It does this by creating solutions that enable communities to easily launch, manage and grow their own grants programs. After its official launch in late 2022, Grants Stack has positioned itself to be the leader in grants distribution software within the Web3.
So far it has enabled large organizations like Polygon, Fantom and Arbitrum to tap into the power of Quadratic Funding in order to easily and transparently distribute funds to an array of promising projects within their respective ecosystems. Grants Stack’s Direct Grants feature has more recently made the world of grants available to organizations big and small, replacing a typical mix of stuck-together tools to create a seamless, all-in-one grants management solution.

    Passport
Passport exists to enable trusted digital experiences and does that by building easy and safe identity management tools to protect communities from sybils and bots. Since its inception, it has been a premiere Web3 tool to help platforms identify real humans that want to actively participate in their community – increasing authenticity and trust between participants.
Our commitment to protecting communities has had us double down on releasing high-impact features while creating an increasingly frictionless experience for both integrators and users alike. We’ve protected airdrops for PoWFaucet and Galxe, secure communities on Guild.xyz, and create reputation building mechanisms on {r}elinked.

    Allo Protocol
Internet-powered communities have accumulated and safeguarded vast amounts of financial power, but have been unable to effectively, efficiently and transparently deploy their capital. Allo empowers digitally local communities to invest in their own future by building resource allocation technologies that enable communities to efficiently deploy their shared funds.
Since the launch of its easy-to-build-with V2 protocol and with its library of novel funding mechanisms, Allo has managed to be integrated with several unique, high-impact projects. From building a Universal Impact Pool with Endaoment—the largest registry of non-profits in the world— to funding a QF round in Togo, Allo is just beginning to establish itself as the backbone of everything from grants programs and improvement proposals, to hackathons and bounties.

    Schelling Point
Created by Gitcoiners, what began as a single conference where impact, sustainability and technology converged has quickly become a beacon for the culture of public goods, where technology meets art, science, education and more.
Having run large conferences in Denver, Bogota, and Amsterdam, the Schelling Point event series expanded its horizons by introducing two new formats in 2023: Sessions and Schelling Point .edu.
    Sessions:
Unstructured, intimate conversations for sharing learnings and sparking ideas
    Schelling Point .edu:
A deconstructed conference format organized in partnership with education institutions
In July, we introduced Sessions held in Paris during EthCC. Over the course of 3 days, we held almost a dozen facilitated conversations on topics ranging from funding to media & design to sustaining a future of public goods funding.

In September we introduced Schelling Point.edu: A deconstructed conference format organized in partnership with Singapore Management University. This first-of-its-kinda fully decentralized event was incepted, planned and run by the Gitcoin community.
A few days later we found ourselves in Berlin for our second Schelling Point Sessions. This time we discussed the future of web3 work and DAOs & governance, topped off by a DAO Death Salon (why not?).
