What I am doing in RnDAO?
I am a chief officer on a traditional financial company that wants to decentralize governance and operations..
I am trying to:
  1. make the UX of participatory budgeting with web3 tools as smooth as possible for micro-business owners who do not have an idea nor an interest in web3.
  1. distribute the funds in the SAFE treasury automatically to follow the process flow,
  1. make sure that the collected money is used for improving our clients’ businesses while also the collective wellbeing.
But, there are two issues: First, our clients are not digital native people, they do not know anything about blockchain nor the usage of digital tools beyond WhatsApp, YouTube, and TikTok. We need them to hold and learn how to use a self-custody wallet and a governance forum; and
Second, we need a scalable way to guide people into the process of how to make a proposal, debate it, and find common ground without needing human time to facilitate or train people into peer governance (where a proposal passes only when there’s no significant rejection);
Because they have never experimented a participatory budgeting exercise nor being part of an online community of strangers that make decisions together with executable and tangible results.
Which makes me feel challenged and excited to facilitate the path towards DAOs IRL.

My journey so far:
Long story short, my personal dream was to become President of the Mexican Republic, when I grew up and entered college I also entered to the main political party to start my political carreer. However, on my first day I was given a fake ID to vote twice for choosing the party’s candidate for governor. That was a reality shock. I decided to stay until the public campaigns ended so to have the broader picture.
After witnessing the systemic corruption I concluded that traditional politics is not able to make genuine positive change.
I decided to improve things within my space of action and grow through mine and the collective’s means.
This experience took me to fund and develop the following cases:
  • Water purification company which entire profits went to neighborhood improvement. Profits were decided by a participatory budgeting. We managed to turn the neighborhood from one of the 5 most dangerous places to be in to one of the safest places of the city. Then, Narcos came to my house and threaten me to pay them to continue. I closed the company and moved to another state.
  • Public services management cooperative. Trained 23 people from the 5 helix of the city becoming a representative quorum to design, develop, and run public services in a way that are aligned with citizens and environment instead of capital maximization.
  • A urban commons school with an immersive approach to teach others how to kickstart and thrive local impact initiatives.
What do I do now:
  1. I’m working on finishing the first ever 100% climate positive mobile house and school. I’m taking this to 20 cities across 20 countries in Latam.
  1. Finishing the courses for turning neighborhoods into urban commons and these into DAOs. I have been requested to offer this course to several condominiums holding thousands of houses.
  1. Turning a traditional micro credit company into a postCapitalist ReFi DAO. This is my research focus with the Collab fellowship.

My RnDAO fellowship Research focus:
Finding the best ways to:
  1. make the UX of participatory budgeting with web3 tools as smooth as possible for micro-business owners who do not have an idea nor an interest in web3,
  1. distribute participatory budgets where the business owners are people from different cities, different sections of the cities, and different interests,
  1. make sure that the collected money is used for improving all businesses participating while also the collective wellbeing instead of individualistic things.

What are my goals for the fellowship?
  • Research: Have a solid understanding of how to deploy participatory budgetings using web3 tools with the least friction possible for the user experience.
  • Growth: Raise $1M from loaners to place in web3 micro credits.
  • Impact: Take out 2,000 micro business owners from the poverty cycle they live in through interdependent collective action (participatory budgetings).
  • Replicability: Help others in the same path of impact making to follow my steps so they augment and speed up they impact making.
What are the fears and blocks I might face? (within my project)
Do not know what to do next. Finding myself doing everything instead of delegating or out sourcing. Finding myself going in circles, feeling overwhelmed.
What is the cost I take if I don’t go through with it?
Time (and life) that won’t return to me. Reputation penalty for not ending what I start. Losing the opportunity to get help in something that I’ve been working for a long time and I have not found whom to share with to learn and improve my ways. The bad feeling of wasting the opportunity that another person wanted too.
What is my plan for the next 3 months?
Research, grow, impact, & replicate. A note: I have three research areas: investors, workers, and users. I’ll focus on the users’ side now. Once I have given some steps ahead on that direction, I’ll start on the other two.
