Who can Kick/Ban Users?
The following roles have the ability to kick & ban users:
- Gitcoin Admin
- Gitcoin Moderators
- DAO Core
- All WS Leads & Discord Managers
- DAOops Support Leads
- DAOops Support
- Meme Lord
Note: If you have one of the above roles but aren’t seeing the ability to kick/ban users, try on another device or the web version of discord. This is NOT a roles issue, it is a discord issue.
When to kick a member
- When an otherwise “regular” member displays harmful behavior, such as promoting a “pump & dump” project
- When a member displays disrespectful behavior, especially toward other members
- If someone is doing pretty harmless behavior like advertising (non phishing links) and has been warned before to not spam the channel
- If you have any doubts if the user should be removed, double check with your peers
Note: If this is a member’s first offense, you can simply delete the message(s) and send them a private warning. You can also just kick them. You can use this template as a guiding point:
Hello! I'm messaging you regarding a message you sent in the Gitcoin server that I have deleted. [Explain reasoning]. If we see more messages we deem inappropriate or disrespectful, or that go against our community guidelines, we will remove you from our server. You can review the community guidelines in the #community-guidelines channel. Thanks for keeping things positive!
Examples

This behavior is disrespectful. The message should be deleted, and the member either warned or kicked.
When to ban a member
- When a member spams
- When a member harasses others or displays harmful behavior towards others
- When a member clearly & blatantly goes against the Gitcoin Community Guidelines
- Use 'ban' if there's clear phishing or fraud going on. This includes people pretending to be support and are dm'ing people or if they're sending invites to join other discords. If you receive such a dm and see at the top that they're in our server, please ban them immediately.
Note: Always add a reason for banning. They won't see it, but we have it in our log.
Examples

This message is clearly spam, and goes against our community guidelines. This is an immediate ban.

This is a threat against our community’s safety, and results in an immediate ban.
When you receive a suspicious DM
If you receive a suspicious DM that you believe to be spam or harassment:
- Check to see if the sender is in our server. You should see a “X Mutual Server(s)” indicator by their name (see the example screenshot)
- If you have one of the roles listed above, go to the Gitcoin Discord settings, find the members list, search for their name, then ban them
- If you do not have a role that grants you the ability to ban the member, share a screenshot of the behavior in the #scam-report channel. Do NOT tag the offender (to avoid an alias change)
- Hit the “Report Spam” button in the DM
