- ability to care, the ability to feel connected to yourself and others
- on Kernel
- Texas AM, Titans of Investing club. very homogenous space. Magnum Opus of the resume. Considered a very exciting space to be in. Need 5 recommendations
- Taught by Bridgewater's CEO. ask questions thats finance related but each week is tied back to questions like why should you become successful, what are your personal constraints, who is right to love (talked about their 40. year marriage and them being active in communities)
- level of care came from not just making titans interesting but he just enjoyed it too and he cared for his own mental state along the way
- this community of care has ripple effects beyond any professional or financial outcomes
- the phenomenon of care by playing the game evolution of trust. asking questions like who do you trust, and why. would a world without trust be richer or poorer
- no such things as trustless systems. but to move away from the media or platforms we're within back to trusting people
- that's not trust-less. there's a moral imperative to build systems that allow for greater trust
- what evolves trust? trust keeps relationships going. there could be other spaces where you find yourself in a space that is friendly with win-win scenarios. games can be played amongst members in way that benefit and reduce miscommunication
- another way for trustful environments like DAOs is the spiritual successors - game designers. Lostgarden, treasure trove on game design theory. pro-social economics for game design. what should youth do? "most daring thing is to create stable communities in which the terrible disease of loneliness can be cured"
- patterns to aim for in pro-social games, patterns for communities of care. non-coercion, people can opt in and out based on their preference.
- Sel - thank you for bringing her into kernel
- Scott - community based games, great expression of the problems we're facing in the space. Vlad zamfir and prosocial games
- Viktor - altruistic relationship we're forming. airdrops. because you're using the services you get rewarded in tokens. ENS, GTC, UNI just because you used it. relationships we're forming with tech are changing.
- not being airdropped money, being airdropped responsibility? interesting repositioning
- Ryan - anyone has any ideas from mechanisms to be turned into games like this. moonshot wants to release sprite packs and game assets. if there's pro social to make games like this around, love to hear them
- Sid - how do you go about friendships now when we have so much to give and receive
- friendship should come first, we cannot survive without each other. in DAO culture we need to ask ourselves this. personally, try to keep front and center in experience of kernel.
- AMM swimming pool together, gold medalist Olympic swimmer in the session. tried to get him to dive and he belly flopped as a starting point to that swim lesson.
- wanted to find an interesting startup. joined Fin. Sam Lesson, VP product at facebook and Cortina who co founded Venmo
- read first part of hero of 8 billion faces
- "Ukeles is not opposed to progress and development of the new. The point is that development and maintenance areΒ bothΒ essential, but these complementary systems are out of balance, because our culture biases toward mechanisms for recognizing and rewarding only one side of the equation"
- why Kortina has always been an inspiration is he found a way to show me (Vivek) for someone who has built Venmo, how much it matters to him to burn a small CD to give his mother on Christmas and the awareness of the care that has been put into him from his childhood.
- Scott - beautiful article, definitely something that when we think about community it often starts with care.we are often strapped away from our community when we expand the worlds we are a part of.
- Lani - manifesto for maintenace art, take a listen to it. consider art between art as a commodity. how do we center care around these organisations. felt outside of the New York scene. this was the moment of reclaiming her art practice and being valid and invaluable as part of the art scene. its part of what's resonant. opportunity to redefine both individually what we value and what we care about
- Henry - maintenance as care as opposed to surveillance as care.
- felt sense of care, its not something that can easily be turned into an action item. you can make space for it. do your to-do list of chores. can understand the difference between care and surveillance.
- Henry - outsourcing of care. don't have to be in someone's presence to do it
- David - better than therapy, relaxed. cortisol is down.
- Vivek accepts ENS tokens for therapy today.
- 8 people recently passed away at a festival. key thing you can look at. it was a toxic environment to be in. anyone who had a maintenance job was overwhelmed and could not describe the situation before it was too late. reminds me of Github comments with 2 or 3 maintainers dealing with thousands of issues. people involved in this process of ensuring stability are not being taken care of. structural fault of systems that put too much weight on people in these situations.
- Gama - roles can be very rigid. mindset that we cannot do something outside of your role.
- Lani - hierarchy is more distributed. natural encouragement. don't feel empowered to speak up about it. how do we radically take care of everyone we're working with. everyone feels supported just in living and the work we're engaged with. DAO basic income, minimum financial stability for everyone participating
- Gama - thinking about this, a space for people to open up can only exist if we create cultures that welcomes vulnerability. professional mindset can sometimes be contaminated in DAOs. professional or unprofessional behaviour. professional is to always be productive and good. feels it can be forced. design a new way of doing things where we can be in a place to say yes but also space to be vulnerable.
- Cosmo - provide a safe environment for people that they'll be grounded and things will be okay. this piece very striking. poses an oppositional binary. continuity in place. through the process of maintenance that you refine and develop. cross from play into development
- Expand upon that technique, approaching a habit pattern from a new angle.
- Gama - did art therapy in the past. really struggled with creative blocks. traditionally will paint and draw in a certain environment. encouraged to disentangle self from usual mediums. take a crayon and rather than a desk just draw on a large piece of paper on the wall. hold crayon like a child would and go wild. act of creating and drawing in particular, different perspective.
- showing care to children, getting them outside of their comfort zone.
- Linh - When someone shows kindness to me, I have a huge urge to show equal if not more compassion for the next as it opens my mind to the possibility of what I can do for another individual. Building a system with a strong influence in care from the get go means that those current and new to the space optimizes for a really trusting space, and I think trust brings society forward at a much faster rate than a lack thereof. Similar to my experience entering web3, at first I didn't have too much care for it but being immersed in the community convinced me there is something to be unlocked here.
- web3 primitives that could be introduced with care. at the starting point, the way its described is that there is a deep technical infrastructure behind kernel. if you're working on a web3 project and you're looking for ideas for where it might go in the next decade that is available. non-coercion is one of the main principles of kernel. and allowing for different types of spaces for somebody to choose from. nature of the syllabus is that it does require. you'll be forced to reckon with your own intentions and personal journey. it allows you to find spaces that are your own choice in how you pursue that.
- Sid - oversubscribe to all the kernel info as possible to be involved and be engaged. important was the stewards opening up. people opening up about their journeys in as much depth as possible. people running the space should be trustful
- Lani - brings us back to Gama's point to vulnerability. more we can be open to challenges and their own experience and communicate with compassion, recognise each other as human beings.
- trying to understand how to live in the web3 context in a careful way. having a support network of people that include many people on this call. as a steward, how to find the flow or the rhythm again.
- Scott - really important as the space grows to keep that kind of space. Twitter is just chaotic. everyone's excited about everything. nice to go back to a space.
- Healthcare workers?
- Scott - an increasing problem. everything moves faster over time.
- βYou never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.β
