Talking DAO Governance with ChatGPT | SOD
In this thread, we bring you ChatGPT’s hot take on the importance of governance, the differences between on-chain and off-chain governance in DAOs, and also the biggest challenges with DAO governance.
🧵👇 (0/12)

Why is Governance important in DAOs? Governance is important because it allows the members to collectively manage the resources and assets of the organization, and make decisions that will ensure its long-term success. 1/12

What are the differences between on-chain and off-chain governance in DAOs?
On-chain governance refers to the process of making decisions and managing the organization using smart contracts and blockchain technology. 2/12

Off-chain governance, on the other hand, refers to the process of making decisions and managing the organization using non-blockchain methods, such as online forums, chat groups, or voting systems. 3/12

What are the biggest challenges with DAO governance? They include:
1. Sybil attack: This is a situation where an individual or group creates multiple fake identities to gain control of a DAO. It's like someone creating multiple fake identities to win an election. 4/12

2. 51% attack: This is a situation where a group of individuals or an organization that holds 51% or more of the tokens in a DAO can control the outcome of voting and decision-making. 3. Voter apathy: This is a situation where members of a DAO are not voting in an election.
5/12

4. The DAOs structure and rules: The rules and structure of a DAO can be complex and difficult to understand making it hard for members to make informed decision.
6/12

5. Scalability: It can become difficult for a DAO to handle the load and process all the decisions and transactions in a timely manner as the number of members and transactions increases.
7/12

6. Lack of accountability: The decentralized nature of DAOs can make it difficult to hold members accountable for their actions.
8/12

What does the future of DAO governance look like?
Some of the innovative developments taking place include: 1. Decentralized finance (DeFi): DAOs are using complex governance models to ensure the stability and security of the #DeFi ecosystem
9/12

2. Predictive Markets: DAOs are experimenting with predictive markets to forecast the outcome of future events.
3. Token-curated registries: DAOs are using token-curated registries to create decentralized lists of high-quality assets and projects.
10/12

4. Interoperability: DAOs are also exploring ways to interact and collaborate with other DAOs and blockchain networks.
5. AI integration: DAOs are starting to integrate AI and machine learning to automate decision making and improve efficiency.
11/12

What role do you predict AI will play in DAO governance in the near future?
I predict that AI will play a significant role in automating certain decision-making processes, improving efficiency within said and also analyzing large amounts of data to provide insights.
12/12

Specialized Stables | DeFi Download
In the bear, it can be hard to find an asset that isn't going down. For many, stables offer a refuge from the down trends. In this thread, we take a look at some alt stables, starting from Terra’s collapse and moving beyond that
🧵👇 (0/12)

Terra’s Stablecoin Collapse With Terra, what was once supposed to be one of the most secure blockchain projects to invest your money with, turned out to be a blockchain protocol that was built to crash from day one. 1/12

How Terra Worked The Idea was for both UST (an algorithmic stable coin) and LUNA (a native token) to be in constant equilibrium to ensure UST was always pegged at one US dollar. 2/12

To buy UST, you would have to burn LUNA in order to receive your UST, this reduces LUNA’s supply and the price goes up. In the same vein, if you want to buy LUNA, you burn UST in order to receive LUNA and this reduces UST’s supply and the price increases. 3/12

How the Crash Happened Terra crashed as a result of the UST being de-pegged to such a degree that in order for the algorithm to keep things pegged, LUNA was printed so much to the point where LUNA’s supply was so incredibly inflated that its price shot down by 99.9%. 4/12

This rendered LUNA worthless and with UST soon to follow. UST’s deeper taught a lesson about having a protocol that soleyvrelies on an algorithm to keep it value without being backed by any other asset. 5/12

2. RAI RAI can be minted by depositing collateral into vaults and creating debt positions. Unlike the multi-collateral DAI, It is only backed by ETH.
6/13

Mechanism RAI is not pegged to USD value or any fiat value, but instead pegged to the ratio of collateral to market cap. 7/13

The exchange rate of RAI/USD is managed by buying/selling RAI to stabilize it value, not a peg. The smart contract will react to some sensor (Market Price) and use a mechanism (Redemption Rate) to influence the sensor to converge to a chosen equilibrium (Redemption Price). 8/13

3. A Stable Fractional Reserve FRAX is the world’s first fractional algorithmic stablecoin, launched into Ethereum main-net in December 2020. Stability Mechanism A second token is required to mint FRAX fractionally, FRAX Shares (FXS). 9/13

At a collateralization ratio of 100%, if we deposit $10 USD worth of collateral we could mint 10 FRAX. At collat. ratio of 90% if we want to redeem $10 of FRAX at 90% ratio, we would get $9 of collateral back in addition to $1 of newly minted FXS. 10/13

When the price of FRAX is too close to the $1 USD peg, minting and redeeming FRAX is disabled. Only when FRAX falls out of the appropriate range (greater than $1.0033 and less than $0.9833) can either be performed. 11/13

4. Threshold USD Plans to implement a threshold USD (thUSD) drew inspiration from the Liquity lending protocol. When taking a loan in Liquity stable coin LUSD, the borrower only pays a fee upfront and keep their collateral deposited indefinitely without paying interest. 12/13

thUSD has a key design difference from the Liquity protocol, aside from using tBTC instead of ETH as collateral, the pool is paid back directly in thUSD. thUSD is much more decentralized and focused on self-custody, decentralizion and autonomy. 13/13
