Some Ideas discussed
- Gitcoin is in a unique space where we can ‘grow’ our own future grant funders by incubating them with Gitcoin grants
- We could readjust our ops efforts to focus more on grants during grant ops then refocus them on community building and partnerships during other periods
- Public Library has potential to become more open and as a platform to feature grantees or have grantees interact with other grantees as part of the overall Gitcoin ecosystem
- Gitcoin could also help nurture and facilitate grantees’ growth eg. hold a session for all podcast grantees with alisha and lani to learn best practices or hold a infra roundtable to see what are some challenges that exist etc
- More spaces for PGF folks to hang out and talk to know each other - that lunch session was really great
- Sharing best practices from our other job/ past lives eg. how Tribe does our sales pipeline with how Vishnu’s running the partnerships pipeline
Grassroots Community Efforts
Public Goods PR - helps showcase why this matters / gets people interested
Public Goods Art?
Lani has been interested in helping people experience public goods or to communicate the tensions around public goods through art. One way might be to scout for art works to host party bids for grant rounds, much like greatestLARP.
Public Goods Library -
- ideally, library is a space to ideate and bond on optimism of the future. You have to have a place for creativity and vision to collide and build that excitement. All without much effort (you have the option just to listen in)
- helps people level up to becoming contributors *also produce content from what is discussed.
Librarian as grassroots leaders?
We could grow the library in the sense that our librarians congregate at the weekly library call but they are empowered to hold additional sessions in their own communities much like juntos and Gitcoin could be a part of it. (sponsor, speak, provide content, topics etc).
Ben P is good at helping mentor folks (Kernel experience) he could help guide librarians to create content in their own communities and spread the consciousness of public goods. Linh can help with figuring out the initial ops for each of these sessions and experiments so it mixes things up a bit + gives lots of exposure to different organisations and spaces.
creates an entry point for Vishnu to talk about partnerships and helping out with future grant rounds too (but this shouldn’t be a stated KPI here)
Grantee community?
Pan, Sid, Paul, Tua, David, Kyle could probably help run grantee roundtables to keep them engaged and facilitate conversations to help grantees succeed. Right now we incubate projects on an ad hoc basis but it might be a good chance to ‘grow’ some grantees through helping them synergise with other grantees or DAOs etc (people in the ecosystem) Gitcoin does sort of act as a schelling point which means that we can also help to connect and do some business dev work if needed.
Supporting partnerships
- adding value to grantees
- case studies to send out to future partners
- onboarding participants into operational roles
- increase dealflow when potential partners join the library for sessions or librarians help make connections
Gitcoin Grants Operations
Public Goods Ops - building out the rounds and grantee structure
Community Partnerships
Public Goods Partnerships - raising funds for public goods and making strategic partnerships that help the other three groups (coalition)
Current Workstream Cadence
Quarter (13 weeks)
Week 0 - Week 9: focus on partnerships and community (weekly library + weekly twitter space)
Week 10-12: Grants Ops
Week 13: Budget
Other cadences:
- Biweekly calls - mostly an update call but done synchronously, occasionally new initiatives are proposed eg. public-goods-updates channel
- monthly steward calls - also an update but not too many stewards show up
- monthly compensation - have to field some questions from contributors on when its happening, justification for amount etc
- GitcoinDAO digest - weekly updating but mostly annika and scott handles this
