What does it mean to run a grants program on an open-source protocol? Here are some guidelines for talking about the Gitcoin Grants Protocol, and the design partner program, with your community and audience.
Terminology
  • Grants hub: how projects apply to grants. A project’s grants hub profile has information including a project description, roadmap, product overview, teammates, and milestones reached. It’s also where projects can verify their Github and social accounts. Having a complete grants hub profile is important for due diligence.
Framing
Gitcoin describes the grants protocol as funding infrastructure for the open web. It’s a suite of tools anyone can use to run a grants program and reinvest in their ecosystem. As a protocol, it may be used permissionlessly, by any community, in a centralized or decentralized way— we aim to be credibly neutral and let the projects who build on us do the talking.
Tone
  • Credibly neutral
  • In line with Gitcoin’s brand voice.
Proposed Campaign
This is a minimized version of the overall runbook selected based off of Optimism’s desire to have a lower publicity profile for the first grants protocol round.
  1. Launch round on Objective: Transparency, space for citizens to ask questions of the Gitcoin team, defining the narrative around the partnership.
  1. Twitter Space during round hosted by Gitcoin Grants Stack Twitter
  1. Co-written blog posts on partnership launch and round results
  1. Case study published by Gitcoin at the end of the round

Phase 2: In-round
This phase is only relevant for organizations opting for a quadratic funding round, due to the higher level of community engagement and outreach it requires. If your team will be using a centralized deliberation process, this phase will require less content.
