New Member Intros:
- Bibilieli – Swiss lawyer specializing in blockchain-related matters.
- VanGrim – Swedish privacy lawyer, now a software developer.
White Paper Status:
- Eagle posted it on community forum a few weeks ago. There have been 10-15 community comments on the latest version. Ask Eagle how to incorporate the comments and how to “finalize” a community document.
Newsletter:
- After discussion, we decided to publish the newsletter monthly instead of biweekly. Hiro is willing to continue editing the biweekly newsletter, but lack of content is the problem. We concluded that a monthly publication would provide (a) a longer on-ramp for content generation, (b) a potential boost in the number of words per article back to the 2000-2500 word average of Season 2, as compared to the 1000-1400 word average of Season 3, and (c) a potential for each monthly issue to have thematic content.
- A monthly newsletter may allow the Guild to get rid of the half hour newsletter meeting typically held before Guild meetings.
Legal Wrapper Proposal:
- Lawpanda and DAOLAW have submitted the legal wrapper proposal. No budget yet approved; Guild members urged to vote in favor of proposal. Lawpanda has some volunteers lined up, including some with particularly valuable expertise. Interested volunteers should ping Lawpanda to participate.
Roles in Legal Guild:
- Lion discussed some new roles in next season. Current positions in Guild: Eagle (coordinator), Lion (project manager), Hiro (newsletter editor), Tayy (onboarding/talent), Taxpanda (treasurer), Larry (knowledge content). New position in next season- we need someone to take notes and create POAPs.
- Lion and Eagle may switch positions in Season 4.
- Hiro willing to continue as newsletter editor.
- Taxpanda willing to continue as treasurer.
- Jay the Legal Wizard willing to take on note taking and POAPs.
- Tayy prepared to leave role; we need his replacement.
- All of the above will be discussed with Eagle and at future meeting.
New Ideas for Legal Guild:
- Troyso suggested a reading list to help people enter the Guild’s legal space. This was a popular idea; Troyso to follow up with Hiro.
- Taxpanda suggested a Guild law library of more substantive materials than suited for the newsletter. This was also a popular idea; taxpanda to give the idea some more thought.
Newsletter and Legal Guild Overview:
- Guild newsletter is the most successful publication of BanklessDAO. It has a wide lay general audience and a following among crypto lawyers; articles are written so that they can be of value to both groups. Guild team has produced the newsletter for 6 months, which is a big achievement.
- Lion explained that Guild is not BanklessDao legal counsel and does not officially advise BanklessDAO. It makes 1-3 proposals per season, resulting in deliverables by the Guild. Guild members are generally anonymous due to tradition and also to avoid any conflict with employers; Guild members are providing their own legal views separate from those of their employers.
Global Tax Consultancy Guide:
- Eagle has said to move ahead. 8 sections are done, with 2 more to go. Brazil submission was sent back for more work. Per Hiro, 3-4 submissions have been edited.
- Taxpanda’s goal is to include more jurisdictions and to keep the content updated.
- Jay the Legal Wizard offered to write a section on Poland by the end of Sunday April 3. Bibilieli will ask his colleagues if someone can write a section on Sweden. Taxpanda will onboard Jay and Lion will add him and Bibilieli to taxation thread on confidential basis.
