"Let's Do This" Design and build a community project supporting Indigenous sovereignty, identity, protecting and preserving cultural assets and rights.
Team Story
I'm hoping this prototype will be a good starting point for a workshop later this year with the Indigenous Protocol and Artificial Intelligence Working Group. As a philosophical basis, pages 58-68 of the Indigenous Protocol and AI Position Paper has a great essay by Ashley Cordes (Coquille Nation) called "Gifts of Dentalium and Fire: Entwining Trust and Care with AI". Here is a quote: "This work will need to be rooted in respect, trust, mutual care-taking, and cognizance of the ecological impacts they/we create. Future research should recognize that discussions around how AI and blockchain may contribute to distribution, decision-making, and record-keeping for Indigenous social-good are not happening nearly enough. These conversations are especially important to have around currencies as intercultural communication technologies, which can be ascribed meanings colored by colonialism, but now reflect different terrains of meaning such as survivance, sovereignty, tradition, and futurity"
Prior work: Also, Fellow, Aidan Brodie, out of Vancouver is working on the 'Spirit Coin' or 'Spirit Swap'. Red Paper from April 2019.
