Goals
  • dig down into potential bounty board use cases for the newsletter team
Discussion
What does the newsletter coordinator role entail?
  • they have 3 newsletters shipped every week
    • he coordinates the content - writer's, editors, etc
    • everyone gets paid various rates
  • planning content calendar, etc
  • every week there is a new person coming in - very much like a bounty system
    • there are certain elements that could be integrated with a bounty board
    • currently they pay monthly out of the multi-sig
    • FEATURE REQUEST: integrating the multi-sig into the bounty board
    •
What is a bounty in your mind, and how does the work you're doing differ?
  • they created a bounty at end of S1 for redesigning header images on the weekly rollup
  • i.e. state of the DAOs , we'll be in the weekly meeting and divvy up the work
    • people will say "oh i'll work on each of these" and then at the end of the month they will get paid
    • i.e. it's more collaborative than a "bounty", you need to be a quality writer/editor (have gone through the test), there's a bit of a gate (not just open bounty)
    • if you pass writing/editing test, then anyone can work on this stuff - it's pretty much a volunteer basis
    • but it's done synchronously, while the bounty board is much more asynchronous
      • there's less collaboration
Is there work for newsletters other than writing/editing?
  • he does marketing himself on his twitter
  • design is pretty much one-offs

Is there a way to make the recording or contributions easier?
  • it's on his TODO list every week - but it's a pretty easy thing
    • just look at meeting notes, copy-paste the names, and the rates are all preset
    • he spends like 5-10 mins a week on this
  • not a pain point from his perspective

FEATURE REQUEST: What about recurring bounties?
  • every week he needs an editor for the weekly rollup
  • currently it seems like MORE work for him to use bounty board with manual process
    • but if it was automated to the extent that he would reliably know it was there, he might use it
    • then the weekly meeting, he would just look at the MISSING bounties (i.e. editor for this week is missing), so the benefit would be stuff would happen more asynchronously

One of the reasons he hasn't used the bounty board
  • he doesn't pay these people, they come out of the multi-sig
  • they don't want to do many multiple transactions at once
    • can it fit into their existing workflow?
  • tipping doesn't really work that well for this workflow
  • IDEA: multisig is OWNER of the bounty, but it gets executed at a later date

In S2, they will be getting a lot of translation effort
  • this is a new asset - initially this will come out of the newsletter multisig, but eventually it'll come out of the translator's guild international media notes multisig
  • they JUST started last week
    • they are translating weekly rollup and state of the DAOs
    • once translation is complete, they add it to their notion table, it's 500 BANK per translation
    • at end of November, they will be adding translator executed bounties with newsletter remuneration process
  • they had a process on Discord where they were tracking this on Discord
    • siddhearta was NOT down to have to go through Discord to get this done
    • QUESTION: how are other guilds/projects doing this? Tracking disbursements, etc

Notion disbursement process - it's open, transparent, not super secure
  • you basically have to check that it's all correct...a nefarious actor could change things and make things difficult
  • IDEA: can we add value here?

Role salaries - can we improve this?
  • Ap0ll0 does end-of-the-month reconciliation process

What do you think of the bounty board? How could it be a useful project for you?
  • He'd use it for one-offs - another header design or something
  • when they did the weekly rollup header design (3K BANK bounty)
    • but the design wasn't really working for them (even after a few mockups)
    • then they engaged the weekly POAP winner, adapted it and split the bounty between them
  • would you use it for recurring bounties?
    • maaaaaaybe, it would depend how it would sync up to their existing workflow
    • at the moment, he goes to one place for everything - record bounty, view past bounties, etc - he doesn't want to create additional work for himself
    • perhaps if there was a reporting mechanism (completed, pending as a table), then he could easily fit this into a workflow
      • he would search for newsletter, just show newsletters, etc
      • consistently tracking things would be useful - go through and check ALL bounties
        • currently he can sort through everything and find what he needs - quick visual confirmation before everything goes out. This is missing in the bounty board for his use
  • gating is bare minimum for him
