Please provide links to published code, research, or other documentation of what you've worked on.

What is the project? *
Describe the main concept and components of the proposed work.

BanklessDAO is a media DAO focused on Defi and self-sovereignty of digital assets with over 20,000 members on Discord and over 50,000 followers on Twitter. Despite being formed by and continuing to use the Bankless brand, BanklessDAO operates as a wholly distinct entity from the popular podcast BanklessHQ (Bankless LLC).

BanklessDeSci focuses on exploring the concept of self-sovereignty for digital assets and its applications at the intersection of DeSci, DataFi, and dataDAOs. Most DeSci projects tend to actively avoid anything to do with Defi due to the stereotypical reputation of crypto as a scam. Leaning into these concerns to explore how DeFi can be ethically integrated into DeSci and DataFi in ways that align the values of both movements has huge potential for unlocking access to knowledge as a universal public good. All while retaining or increasing the net profitability of coordinated scientific activity.

What problem(s) are being solved by within the scope of the grant? *
What is the specifc problems, research questions, or needs you are trying to address?

Why is your project important? *
How do you know people need what you're making? Why is this project important for your target demographic/problem area?
One of the primary educational goals of Bankless Desci is to make Desci concepts accessible to scientists, researchers, and students. Many in the scientific community may be unfamiliar with these technologies. Bankless Desci organizes workshops, webinars, and creates educational materials that break down complex topics into understandable concepts, showing how they can be applied in scientific research.
Conversely, there's a need to educate the crypto and wider community about the significance of scientific research and its processes. By hosting discussions, publishing articles, and creating content that explains Desci concepts and the importance of supporting scientific research using the blockchain technology, Bankless Desci can foster a more scientifically literate and engaged community.

How does your project differ from similar ones? *
What other solutions are being worked on, and what alternatives do people currently rely on? Do you have unique expertise/perspective?

  1. Integration with Bankless DAO Projects: Bankless Desci could be uniquely positioned to integrate with other projects and initiatives within Bankless DAO, creating synergies that might not be available to standalone DeSci projects. This could include collaborations on educational content, joint events, or shared technological infrastructure.
  1. Educational Emphasis on DeFi and Crypto: While DeSci DAOs typically focus on the intersection of science and blockchain, Bankless Desci also put a significant emphasis on educating the scientific community about DeFi and the broader implications of cryptocurrencies.
  1. Tokenomics and Governance: The governance structure and tokenomics of the Bankeless Desci are influenced by the principles and practices of Bankless DAO. This could involve unique governance models, token distribution strategies, and community-driven decision-making processes.
  1. Bankless DAO Community and Network: Being part of Bankless DAO, Bankless Desci would have access to a broad network of DeFi experts, crypto enthusiasts, and content creators. This community can provide a wealth of knowledge, support, and potential collaborations, differentiating it from other DeSci projects that may not have such a robust backing.

Is your project a public good? *
Yes. Here's how:
  • 1. Open Access Education: At the core of Bankless Desci is the commitment to providing open and free educational courses in science, accessible to everyone. This initiative breaks down traditional barriers, fostering a more inclusive scientific community where learning is not limited by geography or financial constraints.
  • 2. Sustainable Learning Model: The courses are designed to be sustainable and continuously evolving. By leveraging the collective knowledge of a global community, the content remains up-to-date and relevant, ensuring that learners always have access to the latest Desci knowledge.
  • 3. Collaborative Learning Environment: Bankless Desci facilitates a decentralized and collaborative learning space. Students, educators, and enthusiasts from all corners of the world can engage, share insights, and co-create knowledge, making the learning process more dynamic and diverse.
  • 4. Quality and Credibility: Through decentralized peer-review processes, the educational content is rigorously vetted by a diverse group of experts. This ensures that the courses maintain high quality and credibility.

Is your project open source? *
If not, why not?
Yes. Bankless Desci’s code is open on Github; our decision-making processes and governance structures are also accessible to everyone on BanklessDAO’s notion page. This transparency is crucial for trust-building in decentralized systems, allowing members and the public to understand and verify how Bankless Desci operates.
The project also thrive on community contributions, which means that scientists, educators, developers, and enthusiasts can collectively contribute to improving the platform. This collaborative spirit is at the heart of decentralized science, where knowledge and innovation are the results of communal efforts.
