How to Integrate with Tally

What is Tally?
Tally allows you to create simple forms that can be shared with various users in and outside of the bDAO community.

Link to Tally: https://www.tally.so

When should I integrate Tally with Notion?
Integrating a Tally form with Notion will allow you to automatically populate a database in Notion with the responses that you receive on your Tally form. All responses can be mapped to a database’s data attributes.
Example Use Case
The design guild has set up a Contributor List database within their guild: https://www.notion.so/bankless/Contributor-List-Design-Guild-78bf2d584de5477bb15759c7f3500759

This form tracks all the contributors that have helped out with their guild’s projects. They have also built a form that contributors can use to fill out their information here: https://tally.so/r/nr0gL3

When a user fills out the contributor form, a new line item is automatically added to the Contributor List database, making it easy for the Design Guild Administrator to track contributors without having to give edit access to people outside of the bDAO organization.

Prerequisites
  • Tally Pro (paid) Account
  • Already-created Notion database

A paid Tally Pro account is required for this integration to work. The Notion integration as well as the ability to invite users to a Tally workspace is only available for Tally Pro accounts.

Integration
There are 2 parties that need to be available to set up this integration:
  1. Owner of the paid Tally Pro account
  1. A Member (paid seat) of Notion
It is advised that this integration be done together, although it can be accomplished asynchronously.

Note: The Notion Member that is setting up the Tally integration will also need to create a Tally account. This account can be a free account.

Integration Steps
Responsibilities for the 2 parties are designated by the text colors (purple for owners of the paid Tally Pro account and green for members of Notion)

  1. Ensure that the Notion database has been created under the correct Guild.
  1. Notion member must invite the Tally automation to the Notion database that’s being integrated
  1. Create the Tally form in the Tally Pro account’s workspace.
    1. Note: It’s unnecessary for the form to be complete at this stage, but it needs to have at least been created.
  1. Reach out to a paid member of Notion and explain the required integration.
    1. Notion member will need to provide their email (the email they used to create a Tally account) to the requestor.
  1. Log in to Tally, and invite the Notion member to the workspace where the form is located.
  1. Notion member logs in to Tally, and accepts the invitation to the workspace
    1. After accepting the invitation, the Notion member will see the workspace available in their sidebar.
  1. Open the Tally form that needs to be integrated with Notion and navigate to the Integrations tab. Once there, click the “Connect” button next to Notion
  1. On the integration page, under “Select Notion Account”, make sure BanklessDAO is selected.
  1. Click the dropdown under “Select a database”, and choose the database that needs to be integrated.
    1. If the database isn’t showing up, double check that the Tally automation has been invited to the database (See step 2). If that is verified, click the “Refresh Notion databases” symbol next to the dropdown.
  1. The Notion member can leave all the other fields blank, and then click the “Connect with Notion” button at the bottom of the page.
  1. Once the integration has been set up, the Tally account owner can view the integration and edit it. They can use the edit feature to determine the field / database mappings.
