About our guest speaker
- Include guest name(s); try to include name pronunciation.
- Khori Whittaker
- Write a short bio about the guest(s) including their role at the project they are speaking about.
- Khori Whittaker is the Executive Director of ENS
- Find one or two things that are unique or interesting about our guest. Little known facts are great! i.e. owns two Shiba Inus in real life so bought a lot of SHIB.
- Khori Whittaker began his career as an educator at Teach for America teaching fifth grade in the Long Beach Unified School District. Heās skills are Public Speaking, Business development, Coaching, Leadership development, Program Development, Leadership, Higher Education, Recruiting, Training and Teaching.
- Describe their crypto journey thus far. i.e. graduated from college in 2016, got their first bitcoin as a graduation gift, fell down the rabbithole of Ethereum, launched a DeFi protocol in 2020.
- How has their crypto journey impacted their decision to join/launch the project they work on today?
- What are some notable achievements that increase their web3 reputation?
- He is the Executive Director of ENS, a name and lookup service built on theĀ Ethereum blockchain that allows crypto users to translate their machine-readable addresses to human-readable addresses.
About the project
- What is the general positioning of the project? i.e. DeFi, NFTs, DAOs, governance.
- Community, Governance, DAO
- What is the value proposition of the project? How does it clearly differentiate itself from others in the web3 space?
- ENS makes the emerging Web3 ecosystem more approachable, and more marketable because people and dApps can easily share crypto addresses.
- How does it benefit it community members and general web3 communities at large?
- ENS offers human-readable domains for other crypto wallets, websites, content hashes and metadata ā aiming to be your Web3 username, connecting all your addresses and websites under a single nickname, so that you can receive any type of cryptocurrency or NFTs via your ENS domain.
- Is it bridging blockchains, protocols, tools, communities, etc.?
- Yes
- Does it bring a unique vision or approach to solve challenges in web3?
- Yes, by allowing users to create universal nicknames for all their public addresses and decentralized accounts. Rather than using an incomprehensible string of keys for different crypto addresses, users can rely on one ENS Ethereum domain.
- How does it improve web3 ecosystem?
- Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is a naming protocol thatĀ allows humans to use easy-to-remember domain names for their cryptocurrency addresses. The protocol then translates it to a machine-readable address.
- Generally, how does the product work?
- Provide basic information about the product
- The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) isĀ a distributed, open, and extensible naming system based on the Ethereum blockchain. ENS's job is to map human-readable names like 'alice. eth' to machine-readable identifiers such as Ethereum addresses, other cryptocurrency addresses, content hashes, and metadata. ENS has two components: 1) theĀ registry, andĀ 2) resolvers. The ENS registry consists of a single smart contract that maintains a list of all domains and subdomains. Resolvers are responsible for the actual process of translating names into addresses. Any contract that implements the relevant standards may act as a resolver in ENS.
- Details of product stemming off high level overview
- Outline a few mid to high-level topics about the product
- Results of the product so far
- According toĀ dataĀ from Dune Analytics, over 525,000 addresses had participated. The charts indicated 67,095 ENS registrations in February, but the figures spiked to 85,272 the following month. The uptrend continued, and April saw 162,978, with May recording a significant rise of 365,652 registrations ā 124% higher than the month prior. The month of June, on the other hand, saw only 122,327 names being registered as a result of the unprecedented market turmoil. Figures completely flipped in July amidst recovering market sentiment among investors. In fact, ENS registrations reached 378,804 during that month. The number of ENS registrations in July exceeded 378,000. The month saw intense activity in terms of protocol revenue as well, which climbed above $6.8 million.
LatestĀ statsĀ further reveal ENS to be widely integrated naming standards with more than 1.67 million names, boasting 505 integrations, with ownership as high as 482k. Nick Johnson, the founder and lead developer of ENS retweeted
- Practical applications of product.
- Detail current functionality of project, where it is deployed, TVL.
- ENS is deployedĀ on the Ethereum main network and on several test networks. If you use a library such as the ensjs Javascript library, or an end-user application, it will automatically detect the network you are interacting with and use the ENS deployment on that network.
