How to Start a New IMN in 3 easy steps
In order to build an audience in a new language from scratch, it is essential to first clarify some fundamental concepts about ETH, DeFi, and the Metaverse. Once this foundation is clarified it's easier for a new listener to follow the content produced by bDAO and ultimately become part of the Bankless Movement.
Β
Time commitments: Before agreeing to start a new media node please understand that this is a long-term commitment that requires 10-15 hours/week of dedicated work over the course of many months in order to become successful. Please make sure you are available to commit before starting a new node.
Step 0
Before launching a social media channel it is essential to have these topics clarified in the native language with the help of a newsletter/blog/podcast/youtube channel
- What is a Bankless nation?
- What does it mean to become Bankless?
- What steps can one take in order to become Bankless?
- Why would you even want to become Bankless and why decentralization matters?
(please expand this list and add other relevant inputs)
Once this content is available, the language node can start promoting the Bankless movement via social media. Usually, the content that works best is:
- Memes
- Easy metaverse/web3 news
- Reels
- Promoting newsletter/blog/podcast/youtube channel - if applicable
If you are unsure where to begin, Here is an exhaustive list of content you can begin with by @jon otherbright
Additionally, please add your node information in the IMN Database
Useful tools/sites
To set up your IMN effectivley there are a lot of different tools to use. These are some that you might find usefull.
- Set up Notion for your IMN: https://www.notion.so
- For translation: https://www.deepl.com/translator
- For newsletter: https://substack.com
- For website and newsletter: https://ghost.org/
- To manage passwords and login details: https://bitwarden.com/
- To create and manage logos and images: https://www.canva.com/
(Please add more)
Step 1
Funding Process
Each language node has a champion elected who will be the point of contact between bDAO and the local node operations and contributors. The champion is ideally someone with an entrepreneurial spirit/background. Each node will have to fulfill certain KPIs in order to receive funding.
In order for your node to be considered an official IMN node, you will have to achieve KPI1 which states: βIn the beginning, each node will have to set up a social media page, post at least 5 posts about the Bankless mission/crypto as well as a Substack page with a post explaining the Bankless mission and vision. Each node should have at least 2 people working in the node (This is mainly a requirement for the translation since we need one translator and 1 reviewer) and the channel should have at least 50 audience members.β
Each node that fulfills the above requirements for KPI1 will receive a grant of 10000 BANK to continue with their activities of growing the channel for the next month.
Β
For more information on the KPI system, please refer to the forum post for S7 funding to understand the funding process.
Reporting
- Each language champion is responsible for reporting their stats to the IMN stats team of that month which will upload it to the IMN Database
- The stats should be updated on the last day of the month
- The IMN Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the IMN database and adding stats on behalf of nodes who are MiA

Step 2
Β
Once the language channel has gathered a few followers and subscribers it's essential to regularly engage this audience with relevant content. The story of the Bankless movement is essentially a story of the new paradigm of the Metaverse taking over the old paradigm of the nation-state as the new locus of community, belonging, play, fun, finance, and much more. Its proponents believe in the Etherean values and explain why ETH is the best settlement layer for this new paradigm. You can expand on this theme however you see fit.
Β
It is recommended that the language channel produce two basic types of content on top of a regular social media presence.
- BanklessDAO newsletters: The language node can decide which of the many (or all) newsletters are relevant/gaining traction for the local community and continue to post the translated versions in the local substack
- Content defining the metaverse: The language node can continue to explain the idea of the metaverse in detail which can include:
- Defining ETH the asset: Ultrasound money
- The global coordination enabled by ETH and how it can slay Moloch (the god of human coordination failure)
- How crypto (spec. NFTs) represent the next cultural renaissance
(please expand this list and add other relevant inputs)
Β
Step 3
Every new paradigm comes into power by demonizing the old paradigm and evangelizing the new paradigm.
Now that you have a regular subscribers base and a decent following, you can start to produce your own content based on the above guiding principle, featuring local characters/icons, memes, and mythologies. Always make sure that the content is aligned to the Bankless mission and values.
To further expand the reach and strength of the language node it is recommended that the language node applies to become an official Bankless Media Node with the aid of a forum post.
