How to Back Up Notion

Notion Backup Requirements
- Workspace Owner rights for the BanklessDAO Notion workspace (for backup of whole site)
- 200 GB minimum free drive space (to store 3 recent backups)
Export Complete BanklessDAO Notion Site
- As a Workspace Owner, open web browser and go to any BanklessDAO Notion page.
- Go to the Settings & members menu option.
- Under Workspace, select Settings. Scroll down to see the Export content option.
- Select Export all workspace content.
- Choose the following options
- Export format: Markdown & CSV.
- Include content: Everything.
- Toggle on Create folders for subpages.
- Click Export.
- You can navigate away from it without affecting the export. You will receive an email with a download link once it is complete.
- From the email, download the zipped file of the workspace content.
- Save it to chosen location — leave the file name as it is.
- There is no need to open it, but if necessary to do so you will need a dedicated zip archive program such as BreeZip or 7zip to extract and open, and Notepad or similar to view the Markdown (.md) files.
- Paste a screenshot of the downloaded Zip file into the Notion backups thread in the notion-workstream channel in Ops Dept. Discord category. At any one time, keep the current and two previous backups.
- Backup schedule is as follows: 0xZFi on 1st of each month, Domanost on 11th of each month, and Trewkat on 21st of each month. In this way we have backups that are only ~10 days old at any point.
Export BanklessDAO Notion Pages
- The Export option is found under the Three dots in the upper right hand corner of the screen of the Notion top bar. There is no need to be a Workspace Owner.
- Select Export on drop down menu.
- Export Options screen
- Export format: Markdown & CSV.
- The Include databases option will only appear for database pages. Choose Current view if applicable.
- Include content: Everything.
- Toggle on Include subpages and Create Folders for subpages.
Choose the following options:
- Export
You will see the progress status prompt. Once this process is finished. Notion will send a download link to the email address that is associated with your Notion account. (Time between clicking export and email is approximately an hour and a half.)
NOTE: Notion’s server may sometimes hang and not send email link or download. Try again.

- Use link contained in the email.
