You’re part of Writer’s Guild, Legal Guild, newsletter, client services, first quest, etc What are your roles in these projects? Do you ever get outside guild work?
  • Has no official roles - more like a ninja to get things done
  • He's currently having something designed for him in the Legal Guild, but it doesn't happen often
  • Never sourced anything for the newsletter
    • He wants to increase the quality of visual on newsletter, but it's a long-term project
  • Client services - he's sourced designs number of times
  • First quest - nothing in particular, doesn’t participate in meetings
    • They put out a new members guide with Ethhunter in the weekly rollup
    • They are working on a more comprehensive version (wallet security) and all tools the DAO uses
    • That will be dropped in the first quest channel - but he doesn’t know what they will do with it, and he doesn’t know how it’ll work
    • This kind of happened organically in the WG
    •
How often do cross-guild work come up?
  • Like once every 1-2 weeks

Writer’s guild design liaison - what’s this role and what are your challenges?
  • There is no “design liaison” per se, it’s not a real role yet
  • They (he, Frank) source people for their own design needs and for client services
    • They kind of know which designer to tap for which client based on designer style
  • How? He just dropped into the AV Guild and Design Guild - introduced himself and asked for the process
    • Made some connections, and since then sourcing of the design work through DMs
    • Using NFThinker as his filter
    • Also has relationships with Nittra and Dippudo
    • Frank Ocean uses Cosmic Clancey a lot
  • Tension points:
    • figuring out pricing initial quote
    • bump up compensation based on # of redesign rounds (he tips extra BANK when he feels tension, and he likes to do revisions)
    • A clear pricing guidance would be helpful (maybe on bounty board itself?)
    • Wishes he knew what the design aesthetic of people were
    • Wishes he knew particular talents of people on bounty board (not just design)
  • He wants to get people based on their aesthetic
    • i.e. Nittra is more comic-like, Cosmic Clancey is more realistic, Dippudo is a more ethereal aesthetic
    •
What is your process for engaging designers?
  • He usually just DMs them - he has a few regulars to choose from
    • He's up front about the BANK, tells them budget and tell them what he wants
    • He tries not to be too descriptive on what he wants - finished product comes out better if designers have space to be creative
  • If there is work that he needs that can’t be done by his regulars, he will tap NFThinker - and ask him
    • He sourced this guy for simple photoshop work for the Legal Guild (cheap for 500 BANK)
    • He just has a personal connection with him
  • Then they get proofs, and they do an iterative direction back and forth until it’s done
    • It usually doesn’t take a lot of revisions to get where he needed
    • sometimes it’s like 2-3 or up to 10-15 depending on who does it
      • 3-4 is average # of revisions for him

How do you find “jobs”?
  • He doesn’t really…most of the work he does it writing and editing and the framework in the writer’s guild - it just works!
    • Same for newsletters, it’s easy and clear for him
  • For legal guild, he’s and editor and he just gets a flat monthly rates
  • he's definitely not looking on bounty board for work - he'd rather do unpaid stuff to make the DAO better

What do you think of the bounty board?
  • He's looked into a little bit - a little naive about it
  • Would use bounty board, because he likes the idea of it being transparent
    • He has a lot of siloed institutional knowledge, if someone else knew what he knew, it would help others navigate this org
      • How do you keep institutional knowledge at the DAO when people come and go - he sees the bounty board as a way to centralize this knowledge
    • Potentially people (Designers) could attach the styles they work with, making it easier to find the designer you need
  • Maybe if he needs a job ASAP, i.e. a 3h turnaround time, he could use it
    • It could make it easier if he knew peoples' aesthetic
  • One thing that would be so helpful would be to have bounty board to be a cornerstone of the DAO
    • It feels like a buried project - you read about it a lot, but don’t see it a lot
    • The sub channel somewhere would be kind of interesting - the web interface as its own channel
    • When asked: he didn't really remember how he looked at BB in the past, but didn't use the website. Viewed #-bounty-board and the website while we were on the call
    •
What would it take to get you to use it?
  • Good UX and more information (reviewed while we were on the call)
    • note: likely he's saying the BB has bad UX at the moment
  • He’s an information junkie
    • The more he understands about what he’s doing - he would use it more
    • More ways to filter/select, etc
  • His fear - 1500 BANK bounty to provide a hand-drawn header for an article
    • Someone who doesn’t really do that work grabs it and gives him unusable content
    • The first-come, first-serve thing doesn’t seem to be super efficient and effective
    • The gating of roles would be a really good start
      • Also would be nice to have design guild tags for photoshop, animate, etc
