    Ep Guide
    Intro
    • Welcome to Bankless Africa, where we delve deeper into the borderless world of the new frontier. In case you have forgotten, this is Miss Purple and I will be your inquisitive guide on this ever evolving journey. With over 700 thousand professional software developers hailing from Africa, as of 2022, 18 thousand of those are from Ghana. For a bit of a juxtaposition, the US has over 23 thousand blockchain focused open source software developers as of 2022. Keeping in mind the fact that over 370 million Africans are classed as unbanked and that some venture firms are preparing to launch funds that could support over 100 African blockchain startups over the next four years to the tune of up to $50 million, we need more developers, now more than ever.
    • If you haven’t already, please do subscribe, whether you are listening via spotify, apple podcasts, Youtube or any other platform, please leave us a comment or a review so we can continue to bring you the kind of content that you want to see & hear moving forward. We will include all the links that we allude to during this episode in the shownotes so be sure to check those out as well.
    • On today’s episode I have a guest who is no stranger to Bankless Africa nor to the ETH events that happen around the world. Abena is a SheFi educator, Bankless Africa contributor, ETHGlobal finalist and the cofounder of ETHAccra. She has spoken at ETHBelgrade, ETHPrague and ETHCC in Paris to name a few. Abena is one of the inspiring Black women in the crypto & blockchain community, I do hope this conversation can enlighten you into the kind of work she does but also on ETHAccra, which is a convergence of developers, researchers and Builders within the gold coast region.
    Episode Questions
    • How did you get into blockchain & CS as a career? A summary of your bio perhaps. X
      • Tell us a bit about ETHGlobal, are you able to share what project put you on the list of finalists? X
      • For those of us that could not make it to the events you spoke at, what does it feel like to be surrounded by so many curious minds and inventive people in one place? X
      • How much do Africa’s problem really depend on African developers? That is can we count of the band of global developers to create solutions that are truly global and solve for the issues we have here or does it absolutely have to be in hands of African or Africa based developers who solve for them? X
    • [AD #1] Before we get into ethaccra, here are all the details you need to make sure you dont miss it.
    • What sparked the idea for ETHAccra? X
    • Run us through what the event is expected to look like, is it strictly for those participating in the hackathon, will there be panels, demos, exhibition stalls, etc. X
      • Who are you expecting to see at ETHAccra, who is the event for?
      • Outside of the fact that Accra is home for you, what about the ETH community here led you to believe that this event was a need? X
      • Is there a theme for the event, something to perhaps guide potential hackers when determining whether or not ETHAccra is the space for them? X
      • As a developer yourself, how do you navigate the regulation scene? X
      • Mainnet or L2
    • There aren’t a lot of ETH events across the continent in general, ETHSafari was touted as the greatest event in Africa last year, which saw I believe over 1500 people in Nairobi & Kilifi for a hackathon, panel discussions and debates about the ETH space. ETHAccra will be joining the short list of ETH recognised events in Africa which include the Lagos ETH Meetup and the Cape Town ETH Meetup. X
      • Are you at all concerned about the amount of people you will be able to get at ETHAccra or is more a quality over quantity situation for you and the team? X
      • What about sponsors? I imagine putting up an event of this calibre needs a significant capital injection or at the very least, a list of committed sponsors to help bring it to life, has it been a breeze to get funding for it? X
    • [AD #2] If you are a developer in and around Accra, make sure you sign up for the hackathon before the cutoff date. If you aren’t a developer. there is still a place for you at the very first ETHAccra
    • In 3 words, why are you most looking forward to within the events arena of the African ETH community? X
