There’s a VERY growing demand for a CMS platform solution that’s integratable with Content Gateway, to replace the Substack for many of our potential partners.
For example:
- Bankless HQ uses Substack, i.e. we can’t integrate their articles in CG;
- Bankless DAO Writers Guild uses Substack, i.e. we can’t integrate their articles in CG;
- Bankless International Media Nodes use Substack, i.e. we can’t integrate their articles in CG;
We promised them that we’ll give them a replacement that will work with CG, and the best option we’ve identified so far is Ghost:
Check out this article for more details on what we’re trying to achieve:
The best way to start here IMO is to fork the open-source version of Ghost, pre-configure it as much as possible and host our own forkable version in our GitHub, so that we can deploy an instance for our future partners any time in the future.
The Ghost instance should support the following features:
- Be able to host articles and group them by categories
- Be able to import email subscriber lists
- [BONUS] Be able to schedule and send the articles as email newsletters
- [BONUS] Ability to set premium subscription payment method up
I think we need to deploy a test instance after setting the template up and make sure it’s usable.
After some re-evaluation we decided that it doesn’t make sense self-hosting Ghost for now. We’ll be offering orgs to adopt Ghost SaaS and keep it as their own expense.
However, we would still benefit from finding a free solution to offer to the customers who’s like to stay on Substack and have their content integrated with CG. Since most Web2 solutions (such as Ghost) cost $$ to host, we could offer integration with a decentralized publishing service such as Mirror.xyz. This kind of service cannot replace the traditional newsletter CMS for most customers, but it could make sense for them to keep it as a secondary content storage purely for the open distribution via CG or other APIs.
