How to Give Feedback π
1. Be Respectful.
- First and foremost, be positive, supportive, and respectful
- You're giving feedback on the writing, not the writer
- The writer has put a lot of time and effort into their work, be considerate!
Β
2. Be Specific.
- Go further than βthis is greatβ or βthis needs improvement," provide specific examples from their writing to complete the feedback guide
- Explain your reasoning
- For example, βI really like the way you used this specific metaphor because it added additional clarity to your complex topic.β
- Check out our Feedback Checklist for ideas on what to look for
Β
3. Start a Discussion.
- Ask probing questions to hear the writer's input on your recommendations
- Attempt to understand their perspective
- Giving feedback is not a 1-sided activity
