As per our proposal, we need to back up Notion regularly: https://forum.bankless.community/t/decentralization-of-notion-permissions-proposal/2432
Â
This is information is collected during the investigation Sia as a decentralized option for the regular notion backup. During the Investigation it was found that Sia Core was a heavy weight program that need a server to used as medium to upload file to the Sia Network. Sia’s 2nd layer solution Skynet makes interacting with Sia Nework light weight and simple for any DAO user or administrator to regularly back up the BanklessDAO workspace.
Â
TDLR: Skynet easy for anyone, Sia-UI too clunky for everyone and server implementation would add complexity with cost.

Sia Background
Implementation (notes)
Server Costs
Sia-UI
Local Host or Remote server to process files. -Computer /Server
Took one full week to download Blockchain. - Initialization time
Block Chain 30+ Gig - Storage
Seed Phrase - Access Control
Sia Coin - Access Control
Takes around 20-30 minutes a week to synch with blockchain. - Wait time
Once contract set need to be regularly synched (60-90 days) to blockchain to pay storage rents.
Â
Skynet (siasky.net) Layer 2 solution by Sia-Net
Â
Ability to drag and drop file or folder with link lasts 90 days. (Cost Free)
Anyone in the DOA that has the link could access backup of Notion.
Periodic backup to Skynet. document links in two different places (Discord, Google sheet?)
Future implementation is to allow option to start a rental contract for files or folders if longer storage solution is needed.
Â
Skynetfree.net has become available and offers 100GBs of free Storage and more storage for a start price a $5 a month.
- Will need a common email and password.
- see docs TBD from Investigate centralized Tally for BanklessDAO
- Offers “Skylinks” so anyone could download or post links of backup.
- Simple - drag and drop.
Â
Some Alternate methods have been mentioned as in IPFS or arweave.org these are permaweb solutions that may be a wrong fit for a prescribed 90 day file life of the backup files.
- The peer to peer nature of IPFS one still relies on a solid seed or host to have all parts of the file.
- Arweave upfront free for “permaweb: A global, permanent web of pages and applications that live forever.” Attempted to claim token through the faucet to try out yet thought I was a bot.
