Notes
- In terms of topics, will be great to chat about the longterm opportunities I see for the continent, what problems builders can work on, some of the projects Iβm launching (investing in founders), debrief from the trip with Vitalik, and the value of community.
Intro
- Our next guest is a friend, an inspiration and a passionate advocate for building a borderless world. Yoseph Ayele is an entrepreneur, a changemaker and a global bridge builder who has lived in 6 countries across 4 continents, that is a lot of global experience. He co-founded and led the Edmund Hillary Fellowship and the Global Impact Visa, which is a new immigration program with the New Zealand government.
- You can listen to his crypto thesis titled βa New Narrativeβ in the form of a talk he did at Devcon Bogota, we will be sure to include this link in our shownotes as well (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9X6HqcuL2Zk)
- Currently, he is focused on the building of a borderless economy with web3, with a particular focus on Africa.
- His big question is, what if web3 needs Africa, not the other way around?
- Welcome to Bankless Africa Yoseph
Questions
- Talk us through your journey to here, how did you find yourself in the belly of the frontier, pushing for web3 as a plan a and not just a plan b? β
- Would you recommend your process β
- What can or perhaps in your opinion should builders focus on building right now? We have seen a lot of innovation facing the remittance issue, but what else do we need to build to further secure our place within the frontier ecosystems? β
- You recently spend 28 days on what you call a learning trip, debrief from the trip with Vitalik β
- what did you learn β
- The three βmountainsβ as you call them that need a lot more focus are Education, especially in a space where we get a lot of our education from twitter and YouTube, increasing the amount of founders with access to capital and building true community that is authentic and not extractive β
- Do you want to add or elaborate more on this?
- On the matter of capital, It would be amiss of me not to mention this in some way, what lessons do you think Africa can take from the recent developments of silvergate and svb, as it pertains to finance and the like? In particular, a lot of the funding received by tech and web3 startups may come from banks or institutions such as these 2, because they are more open and often more understanding, as it stands, where can african builders hope to get their funding from? β
- Share a bit on the projects you are helping launch either as an advisor or investor β
- 3 words to describe how you feel about the space as a whole, it could be about where its headed, or where it is currently.
Β
Closing
- None of what we share is financial advice, please do your own research, especially when the space tends to shift so rapidly.
- Nothing is set in stone, there is a world yet to be discovered, and this time, Africa is at the core of the table.
