⚙️ What is Gitcoin?
Gitcoin is fundamentally focused on building and funding digital public goods. We want to create a society that values creators and replaces corporatized infrastructure with sustainable, open, digital tools and spaces (the metaverse should not be owned by a single company).

Gitcoin is fundamentally focused on building and funding digital public goods. We want to create a society that values creators and replaces corporatized infrastructure with sustainable, open, digital tools and spaces (the metaverse should not be owned by a single company).
Mainly, Gitcoin has focused on achieving this through Gitcoin Grants, a platform that leverages quadratic funding to help communities (like Ethereum) signal what kinds of public goods they care about and in the process get creators sustainable funding to continue their work.
Gitcoin Grants rounds take place on a quarterly cadence, where we try to rally the energy of the community collectively, while the remaining time goes into learning from what went well, what didn’t, and how we can get even more funding to more public goods projects the next time around.

🌱 What are Public Goods?
A public good has two key characteristics: it is non-excludable (costly or impossible for one user to exclude others from using a good) and non-rivalrous (when one person is using a good, it does not prevent others from using it). Together, these characteristics make it difficult for market producers to sell the goods to individual consumers.

📚 What is the Public Goods Library?
The Public Goods Library (aka “The Library”) is a public goods discussion group started by a group of writers interested in exploring ways to create a better positive-sum world.

Every Wednesday at 3pm UCT / 11 am ET, we invite a guest to host a philosophical discussion on the Gitcoin Discord server. Topics are rooted in web3 and public goods, but range from DAOs, community, governance, and everything in between.

Every Wednesday at 3pm UCT / 11 am ET, we invite a guest to host a philosophical discussion on the Gitcoin Discord server. Topics are rooted in web3 and public goods, but range from DAOs, community, governance, and everything in between.
One of our main guiding questions is: what are “Public Goods”, and how do we create, fund, and sustain them?
An important part that drives the library forward is our community! We’d love for you to be involved by joining our discussion (join the call, share your insight, present a topic) or joining our more intensive reading club where we’ll read together, annotate, and debate 💌 This is where ideas are challenged and tough questions get asked. So come in and be a part of the space that offers conceptual abstract educational experiences - all through thinking, sharing resources, and meeting like-minded people.
