Ep Guide
Intro & CTA
  • Welcome to Bankless Africa, where we delve deeper into the borderless world of the new frontier. This is Miss Purple and I will be your inquisitive guide on this ever evolving journey. Quadratic funding is a system that matches community funding efforts, which in-turn helps to accelerate the development of the projects that the community deems most important. Essentially, its giving power to the people. The Gitcoin Grants Round 18 is the 18th quarterly iteration of this public goods funding initiative.

  • On today’s episode we have Bankless Africa core contributor and delegate for Arbitrum & Optimism, ThinkDecade
Episode Questions
  • What deciding factor was there for participating in this GG18?
    • To clarify, this round runs from the 15th to the 29th of August 2023, with all rounds on optimism. There are 4 core rounds, namely the web3 open source software, climate solutions, ethereum infrastructure and the web3 community and education round. Bankless Africa evidently falls under the latter round which has a 250k DAI matching pool
  • What impact would you say Bankless Africa is making, that it needs funding for?
    • There seems to be a gap between African projects/initiatives and funders, why is that?
    • EMURGO report on Web3 in Africa shows that the world is aware that Africa has a plethora of opportunity within the web3 space, but the focus seems to be on bringing foreign entities into the continent with the assumption that they - the big money corporates - have the answers we need, versus capacitating the existing & upcoming communities, why is that? This frontier is meant to be borderless, capacitating all and those who have previously not been, to build anew, so are we the ones missing something? Are we being - dare I say - complacent?
  • Gitcoin process, how does it work?
    • Summarise it to make sure you get it
    • Bankless Africa has multiple workgroups, are there areas that need this funding the most? Essentially where would the funding go?
  • 3 words / phrases on why the community should contribute to African projects, through Public Goods Funding rounds such as this Gitcoin and others.
Disclaimer
  • None of what we share is financial advice, please do your own research, especially when the space tends to shift so rapidly.
  • Nothing is set in stone, there is a world yet to be discovered, and this time, Africa is at the core of the table.
