Creative Director - Design Requests

Work with
Design Ops
o gather all necessary information about the required assets, such as the target audience, project timeline, and specific asset requests. The Design Ops PM will confirm the timeline and set up the project in ClickUp, where you will track tasks and address any questions.
Create design briefs
For each project, create a design brief in Figma based on audience, timeline, and brand guidelines. Share design briefs with the Marketing Strategy Lead and Brand strategist for feedback and approval. Iterate based on feedback. Once approved, hand it off to the design team. This helps designers understand how to orient toward the project and allows others to get insight into the design process.
Design briefs should include all of the following:
  • Audience, timeline, and deliverables
  • Brand strategy: General look and feel that is being looked for (Contact the Brand Strategist)
  • Style Guide: Pull references directly from the GitCoin style guide to create brand guidelines on colors and palettes, typographies (core fonts vs. special occasion fonts), etc.
Assign designers to requests
Design requests come in through Discord. Assign a designer based on designer availability and skill set. Make sure to assign the best person for the job, while ensuring you select someone who is not already at capacity in terms of their workload. Workload can be checked in ClickUp here:
Provide mentorship and support to designers
In addition to message communication, coordinate and provide mentorship and support by participating in the following recurring calls: Daily stand-ups with Marketing Designers, Weekly 1:1s with Marketing Designers, Gitcoin Design Jams (Product Designers)
Offer advice and guidance when designers encounter challenges. If needed, ask if you can co-design with them. This will help you get the desired quality, while ensuring it is a collaborative and respectful process. It will also provide the opportunity for additional feedback and examples that can help the designer better understand what is needed.

💡
It is important that the Creative Director recognizes the importance of helping designers maintain a joyful and balanced work life. Neglecting personal well-being can lead to subpar design work that will hinder the overall mission.
Creative review
Throughout the project, designers will send you things to review so they can iterate. When something is ready to be reviewed, you will receive a message with a link to the relevant file(s). For design, this typically takes the form of a Figma file.
When providing feedback, you will need to:
  • Ensure visual quality and consistency across product designs.
  • Level up the quality of the design:
    • Make sure UX/UI are intuitive and bug free.
    • Check for opportunities to optimize visual polish
    • Ensure the asset is consistent with the design brief and style guide.
